President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to convene an emergency meeting of stakeholders to find solutions to the herder/farmer crisis in the country.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader Bola Tinubu made the call in a statement on Saturday. He said state governors, senior security officials, religious and traditional rulers, as well as representatives of herders and farmers should be invited to the meeting.
Tinubu said governors should replicate similar efforts in their states to address the challenges in a manner that suits the peculiarities of every state.
He said violence has ensued every where adding that stakeholders must collectively and decisively stop what he termed the spiral of death and destruction.
Tinubu said economic hardship and its resultant dislocation, proliferation of weapons, generalised increase in criminality, and weakening of social institutions all play a role in what is currently happening in the country.
“The situation of the herder is becoming untenable. Their nomadic ways fall increasingly in conflict with the dictates of modern society.
