Kogi Police Commnad has confirmed the kidnapping of two bus loads of passengers going to Abuja from Abia state at the weekend.
The incident, the police said, happened at the Inele-Eteke, Ogugu, New Road area of Kogi East district.
The God is Good (GIG) bus left Umuahia in Abia State at 7:30 am on Saturday on its way to Abuja.
The spokesperson of the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Ayah, in a statement on Monday said the DPO, vigilantes, and hunters have been in the bush in an effort to rescue the victims.
He explained that the GIG bus has 12 passengers, while the ABC Transport Sienna bus is with two people. “The GIG Motors driver, however, was eventually rescued by security personnel”.
According to him, Kogi State Commissioner of Police CP Bethrand Onuoha, has deployed an additional Tactical Squad to the area, consisting of a Quick Response Unit, Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and conventional police personnel, to continue with the bush combing and to ensure all victims are rescued unharmed.
