The Chairman, Governing Council, Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), Joseph Terfa Ityav, says the commission will ensure that hydro communities in the country benefit adequately from its operation.
Ityav said this at the commission’s headquarters in Minna during its inaugural meeting.
HYPPADEC was established to address the effect of hydro dams on the host and adjourning communities. The states covered by the commission are: Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Kebbi, Benue, Plateau and Sokoto.
Ityav said the commission will come up with a robust personnel training for effective and efficient service delivery.
“Our mandate is to set up structures, assembly financial and human and material resources and partner international and local agencies towards redressing those cumulative challenges,” he said.
The Managing Director of the commission, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said HYPPADEC will implement the policies of the council, adding that no community within the mandate of the commission would be surcharged in terms of staffing and structure.
