Thirteen people were killed and several wounded when bandits attacked Damaga community in Maradun local government area of Zamfara State.
The attack came when the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor led the Service Chiefs to Zamfara State, where he charged troops on Operation Hadarin Daji to be ruthless against bandits..
The attack also came barely two weeks after bandits abducted over 300 schoolgirls in Government Secondary School Jangebe.
President Muhammadu Buhari had declared Zamfara State a No-Fly zone due to the surge in activities of the bandits, and ordered deployment of 6,000 soldiers to the state to fight them.
A security source said the incident happened at about 1pm on Wednesday.
He said students studying at the Day Secondary school fled when they sighted the bandits advancing towards the community.
Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson Muhammad Shehu said he was yet to be briefed about the incident.
