The Police have officially invited Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II over alleged sallah durbar violation and violence that marred the event.
The police invitation, under the directive of the Inspector General of Police, was extended in a letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, Commissioner of Police (Operations).
The letter requests Mr Sanusi to report to the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, by 10:00 a.m.
The force headquarters is inviting Mr Sanusi “for an investigative meeting in regards to an incident that occurred during Sallah celebration within your domain.”
Tbis is coming days after the Police command in Kano inaugurated a Special Investigative Panel (SIP) to investigate the violence that marred the Sallah celebration and the alleged violation of durbar ban imposed by the police.
On March 30, 2025, the police command said it arrested one Usman Sagiru, 20, of Sharifai Quarters, in connection with the alleged killing and attack on vigilante members that occurred in the entourage of Emir Sanusi after Eid prayers.
Also, the command extended an invitation to Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for interrogation over the violence.
Days before Sallah, security agencies had placed a restriction on durbar activities during the Sallah period due security and safety concerns.
Despite the ban, Emir Sanusi allegedly conducted the traditional Durbar processions, drawing large crowds on Sallah day and the Hawan Nasarawa with a visit to the Government House.
