Former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari has said he would remain an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholder despite the misgivings over the defection of Governor Bello Matawalle to the party.
Matawalle was confirmed by the Chairman, Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee of the APC, Mai Mala Buni as the leader of the party in Zamfara State, following his defection to the fold recently.
The move displaced Yari who had been holding fort as the leader for many years.
The development fuelled speculations that the former governor may dumped the party for the opposition.
However, addressing APC supporters from Zamfara Central Zone at his residence in Talata-Mafara, Yari said he won’t leave the party.
He said: “Some people were saying I would leave the APC. That is their own speculation. I was one of the 10 founding fathers of the APC. I will not leave the party, no matter what.
“Anybody who says I will defect to another party has a hidden agenda. I will not build a party and leave it. We will try to correct our past mistakes to recapture the state.
“We are ready to face (former Governor Ahmed Sani) Yarima in whatever way possible. I was one of those who assisted him to achieve his political ambition.”
He cautioned Matawalle to beware of the likes of former Governor Yarima who can only lead him astray because of their personal interests.
Yari said, “Yarima did all he could to convince me to join the PDP but I refused to do so. I was part of Buhari’s success. I am calling on Matawalle to be careful with political sycophants who wanted to mislead him. If you follow Yarima, he will surely lead you astray.”
