The Divisional Police Officer in Maru town, headquarters of Maru local government area of Zamfara state, SP Kazeem Raheem, has been gunned down
Raheem was killed with an identified police sergeant and a vigilante.
An anonymous local who craved for anonymity, revealed that the criminals invaded Maru to adop a businessman known as Alhaji Iliyasu.
The bandits earlier kidnapped Iliyasu’s brother who was reportedly freed after ransom was paid. They returned to kidnap him but he to escaped, but they seized his wife.
The DPO mobilized his men in an attempt to stop the bandits tokidnap the businessman but he was shot by the gunmen
“It was a terrible experience. I woke up at the sound of heavy gunfire around 2am. Maru town has been under constant attack by these criminals, several people were kidnapped in the past one year.
The state police spokesperson, SP Muhammad Shehu, could not be reached for comment as his phone lines were switched off at the time of filing this report.
