An aide of former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, Kabiru Onyene has been kidnapped on Monday.
It was learnt that in the evening of Monday, armed men invaded his office, at Okene, shooting sporadically, and whisked Onyene away to an unknown destination.
Onyene was said to be at a popular restaurant, “Nahaziyat”, near the palace of late Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, HRM Ado Ibrahim, when the gunmen struck, shooting an unknown person whose fate is hanging in the balance.
A witness who simply gave his name as Ozovehe said “around 7.05 pm on Monday, we started hearing staccato of sound, which many of us took it for knock-out sound from fun seekers heralding the yuletide period.
“But when we saw several people running in different directions, it became clearer that it was a sound of gunshots, not knock out, as we thought initially.
“Few minutes after, news started making the rounds that the gunmen invaded Kabiru’s office; and they left with him.
“It baffled most of us that his abductors took him away; because the place of the incident is just about 200metre to where the soldiers mounted their roadblock around the ex-governor’s house.
“A yet-to-be-identified person was said to have been shot in the process, but I cannot ascertain the condition of the victim yet, whether he is alive or dead.”
“May Allah SWT protect him from harm, guide the authorities to locate him swiftly, and reunite him with his loved ones,” a kinsman wrote on his social media account.
Family sources said Onyene’s kidnappers were yet to contact them, thus causing anxiety as to the reason behind his kidnap and his safety.
The state’s Police spokesperson SP Williams Aya, said he was yet to be briefed about the incident and promised to get back to the media, which he has not as at press time.
