Matheus Pereira bagged a brace before the interval to put the Baggies ahead.
Callum Robinson and Mbaye Diagne then scored after the break to give West Brom all the tree points. Mason Mount scored a tap-in to make the final 20 minutes interesting, but Robinson ended the contest with his second effort in stoppage time.
Chelsea have to bounce back quickly as they take on Porto in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final match on Wednesday.
West Brom are next in action against Southampton on April 12 at The Hawthorns.
