To achieve the desired growth, the government must create a rolling development plan instead of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework now in practice, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has said.
Lawan said this on Tuesday while delivering a lecture at the National Defence College Course 29, in Abuja.
He said the Medium Term Expenditure Framework adopted by the present administration provides some direction, but not exactly what the National Assembly wants.
Lawan said the Senate had severally engaged the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning on the need to roll out an economic plan that complements the nation’s annual budget, in order to ensure the delivery of infrastructural and economic development, in accordance with the manifesto of the ruling party.
The Senate President said the National Assembly believes in a harmonious relationship with the executive to achieve the desired development.
Lawan said: “We also believe in the National Assembly that the Executive must be held to account,” Lawan said.
