Senator Sunday Karimi (Kogi, PDP), has revealed that three kidnapped victims in his zone died trying to escape from their abductors’ den.
Karimi, who represents Kogi West, disclosed this on Friday in Lokoja, saying the incident happened between Idofin and Isanlu settlements in Yagba East Local Government Area of the state.
He said there is a lingering kidnapping incident in the axis, without response from the security operatives, stressing that more than six people had been kidnapped in the past 48 hours within the affected areas.
Karimi therefore called on the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bertrand Onuoha, and the Director, Department of State Services (DSS) to beef up the security in the areas.
Meanwhile, residents were reportedly said to be living in fear due to an increase in kidnapping in recent times.
“We cannot go to our farms again, nor travel out anyhow. People are being abducted every day, particularly since last week with ransom being paid to the abductors. Many kidnapped victims are yet to be seen,” said Olajuwon Olamide, a resident of Isanlu.
The state police command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya, promised to get details of the incident as claimed by the senator.
