Today is the 95th day since bandits seized students from the Federal Government College, Birnin Yawuri, Kebbi state.
After the brouhaha that characterises government reaction to such situations, attention has shifted elsewhere, captured by national social engagements and the political chess game ahead of 2023.
By divine intervention some of the students were released, but about 80 of the poor students remain in captivity.
Negotiations, rumoured to be on-going between the state government and security agencies on the one hand and the bandits on the other, are said to have advanced significantly.
This is said not to be the typical kidnap-for-money affair: therefore a leap of faith is needed to get the suffering students free.
Any extra day they spend in the bandits’ den is a blot on the consciences of all those in a position to help out.
