The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mannir Muhammad Dan Iya, has quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defection takes effect from February 8, 2023.
Dan Iya made this known in a letter to the PDP Chairman of Kware Ward, Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The letter read: “I write to notify you of withdrawal of my membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from February 8, 2023.
“I appreciate the opportunities given to me, which made me to serve in various capacities under the PDP,” he wrote.
Speculation where rife that Dan Iya would leave the PDP to join his political godfather Alhaji Umarun Kwabo who decamped from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His resignation is coming 24 hours to when President Muhammadu Buhari and APC presidential candidate are expected in Sokoto for the party’s campaign rally.
Although Dan Iya did not make his next political move known, sources say he is on his way to the APC and is even expected to lead the APC campaign rally on Thursday in Sokoto.
