The District Head of Binji, Alhaji Kabiru Usman Binji, said they have gotten the approval of Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar to remove any village head concealing cases of violence in his area.
He disclosed this to newsmen during a working visit to his palace as part of the 4-day training on ethical, advocacy and solution journalism organized by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs with the support of spotlight initiative.
He explained that cases of violence against women and children were high in the area because of illiteracy and poverty.
He added that, seasonal migration by husbands in search of greener pasture was also contributing to the problem.
The traditional ruler recalled how a 75-year-old man assaulted a nine -year -old girl and another 25-year- old man sodomized a 10-year old boy in the area.
“The men were arrested, arraigned and currently in prison,” he said.
The traditional ruler wondered why a husband would physically assault his wife which he likened to abomination.
“Your wife should be your close confidant because she is the closest person to you and mother of your children,” he said
The local government’s chairman, Wadata Muhammad Maikulki, said there was a decline in the number of cases being recorded in the area due to the sustain sensitization campaigns.
