The Sokoto State Concerned Pensioners Forum has lamented that their members are still receiving N4,500 as monthly pay.
The Administrative Secretary, Muhammad Garba Bazza, disclosed this on Tuesday in Sokoto, saying the current administration in the state inherited N13 billion backlog of gratuities.
Bazza said the minimum pension in the state was N4,500 while the highest paid monthly pension at local government level was N42,000.
According to him, local government area and Education Authorities were yet to enjoy N30,000 minimum wage, talking more of a new pension after retirement.
They therefore appealed to the state government to increase their pay. pay rise among its members.
He praised the government for setting up a committee of seasoned public administrators to verify unpaid gratuity from 2015 to 2023.
The forum however tackled the immediate past Governor of the state, Senator Aminu Tambuwal over his recent statement on the floor of the house where he claimed that he had paid the backlog of pensions before handover in May, 2023.
“But to our knowledge, there is no backlog of monthly pensions but that of gratuity
“The declaration is one of the 21st century surprises that has ever been made in the history of handing over the affairs of state,” the forum stated.
