Ousmane Sonko, a Senegalese opposition figure, stated on Monday that he will refuse to cooperate with legal authorities unless they ensure his safety.
The announcement comes on the eve of Sonko’s defamation appeal.
“This is no longer justice, it is judicial banditry. And this is why I have decided, still within the framework of my campaign of civic disobedience, to no longer collaborate with this justice”, announced the Senegalese political opponent.
During his forced transport to the Dakar court during first defamation proceedings, Sonko appeared to relate to reports of an assassination attempt by the police back in March.
“(Speaking to the judges, Ed.) You are attacking a man who has done nothing to you by hiding behind your robes and a wrong understanding of the law. You’re going after his family. You are causing harm and believe that you can go about your life as if nothing had occurred. You are incorrect. “I swear to God, all those who have participated in these plots will be held accountable in some way,” the opposition figure promised.
Ousmane Sonko, who finished third in the 2019 presidential elections, believes President Macky Sall plotted to prevent him from running in the 2024 elections.
