A Joint Task Force of security personnel comprising the army, the police and other paramilitary officers raided the residence of a prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi in Kaduna and arrested dozens of occupants.
The residence also serves as the scholar’s Qur’anic school.
The raid took place around midnight Wednesday, head of the school, Malam Fatahu Umar Pandogari, told BBC Hausa.
Pandogari, who is also the Chief Imam of Kaduna Western Bypass Mosque, where the school is located, said the security personnel stormed the residence at about 12:00 a.m and arrested the entire occupant in the compound.
He said security personnel did not give any reason when he asked why they were arrested, even as he explained that not everybody living in the compound were students of the school.
The BBC reports that government authorities did not give reasons for the arrest when it inquired from the Kaduna state authorities.
However, Pandogari said they had complied with the Kaduna state government directive to close their schools in the area, and didn’t know why the raid was carried out.
