Federal and state schools in Kaduna state would not resume on Monday as directed by the federal government, the state government announced late Sunday.
The federal government had earlier directed all schools across the country to resume on January 18, 2021 after their closure due to COVID-19 crisis.
The Kaduna State Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Phoebe Sukai Yayi, said in a press conference that the ministry was still monitoring the COVID-19 situation and will make a pronouncement regarding the situation in due course.
She, however, said only two federal institutions – Kaduna Polytechnic and National Open University – will be allowed to resume on January 18, after they requested the ministry to allow them conduct examinations for their students.
“We want to make it categorically clear that Kaduna State is yet to fix a date for resumption to schools.
“In as much as the federal government has declared 18th January 2021 as the date for resumption Kaduna state is yet to declare a date for resumption,” she said.
