The police command in Kano has banned all durbar activities in the state during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration.
The Sallah celebration is expected to be on June 17.
A durbar is a festival held during Eid-el-Kabir and Eid-el-Fitri celebrations. It begins with prayers, followed by a parade of the Emir and his entourage on horses.
The dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero had recently issued a circular inviting traditional rulers to the Sallah Durbar.
In a statement on Thursday, Abdullahi Kiyawa, police spokesperson in Kano, said the ban is to ensure the safety of lives and properties in the larger community during the celebration.
He said worshippers should conduct their normal Eid prayers at designated praying grounds.
“In furtherance, a ban has been placed on ALL DURBAR activities throughout the state for the upcoming Eid-El-Kabir celebrations. This measure is taken as a result of a series of security reports obtained and wide consultations made with relevant security stakeholders to ensure the safety of the larger community,” the statement read in part.
