The Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State on Tuesday affirmed the election of Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Governor of Rivers State.
The court dismissed the petition filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Patrick Tonye-Cole against Governor Fubara and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In the courtroom on Tuesday, Tonye-Cole had demanded that the court order INEC to declare him the winner of the March 28 governorship election in Rivers.
Tonye-Cole had taken the case contesting Fubara’s election as the Governor to the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in October.
The tribunal dismissed the petition and the PDP candidate went to the appellate court where he again lost out
However, the court on Tuesday upheld the tribunal’s ruling which affirmed Fubara’s victory in October.
