Residents of Angwan Auta in Gonin Gora community along Kaduna Abuja highway on Saturday took to the street to protest the abduction of two persons by gunmen in the area..
The protesters, mostly women and youths gathered at the main Kaduna-Abuja highway around 10 : am demanding an end to the incessant kidnapping in the community.
Our reporter observed the presence of security agents; especially armed policemen as the protest continued causing heavy gridlock.
sources from the area told our reporter that armed bandits stormed Angwan Auta in the area around 12: am on Saturday and abducted four residents but two were later rescued by soldiers and local vigilantes in the area.
A resident of Juji community close to Gonin Gora told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the residents were worried about the rising cases of abduction in the community.
“They are tired which is the reason they staged the protest. The gunmen took away the two persons after JTF and soldiers engaged them in a gun duel which made the kidnappers to abandon two victims,” he said.
A senior Federal Road Safety Officials who didn’t want to be named confirmed the gridlocked caused by the protesters .
He said motorists traveling to Abuja were told to divert through neighboring communities to dodge the gridlock. According to him, the road has been cleared as normalcy had returned to the road before noon.
The state government and the police have not officially commented on the incident .
