The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede has charged the Nigerian Army officers and personnel to selfless and unite in their service to the nation.
Oluyede made the call when he hosted some Muslim officers and men of the Armed Forces to Iftar (breaking of fast).
He said Ramadan, which also coincided with the Christians’ Lent (fasting), was an indication that “the spirit behind fasting is all about selfless service, service to humanity and togetherness.
“I want us to draw from it that from the virtues of fasting, you get to be better Nigerians, be committed to having a better and more secure Nigeria, and love one another more.
“I want us to live more as a family where we look after one another. We can build a better future.
”Specifically, I want us, the officers, to look more after our soldiers, their well-being and their families,” he said.
The COAS appreciated them for the turnout, urging them to merry, share a few moments together and go with that spirit of togetherness and of being a family.
Responding, the Chief of Personnel Services (Army), Maj.-Gen. Y. Yahaya, thanked the COAS for bringing them together to break their fast in the spirit of Ramadan.
