Hundreds of protesters have flooded the streets of Kano metropolis, seeking return of Aminu Ado Bayero as emir of Kano.
Bayero was Kano monarch until last Thursday when NNPP-led Kano State government dethroned him and reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had re-appointed Sanusi despite a Federal High Court order restraining him from doing so.
The pro-Bayero protesters, mostly young people, hit the streets of Kano around 4pm on Sunday, to demand a return of the dethroned monarch.
Some of them lit bonfire on the major road as they marched chanting anti-government songs.
However, there are policemen on ground apparently to prevent break down of law and order.
The protesters trooped out after observing a special prayer session.
Some of them had placards with inscriptions such as: ‘Abba Kabir Yusuf, Obey Court order’, ‘Court Brought You,’ ‘You Must Obey The Court’, ‘Aminu Is Still Our Emir,’ ‘We Are Against Injustice,’ among others.
Earlier, dozens protesters trooped out in Gaya, one of the disbanded emirates, on Sunday morning, seeking reversal of the abolition.
