Air passengers on Saturday got stranded as airlines disrupted flights at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
A power outage, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, stopped airlines from processing their passengers, thereby crowding the terminal.
Heavy rainfall in the late hours of Friday, up to the early hours of yesterday reportedly destroyed electric installations at the airport causing the blackout.
The development affected several flights because it occurred at a time when most international flights were to land and depart.
The airport manager, Victoria Shin-Aba, said one of their feeders developed a fault about 11pm Friday night as a result of the rain, which tripped off the main supply.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in a statement, confirmed the development and apologised to passengers and other airport users who witnessed the “temporary” outage at the airport.
The spokesperson of the FAAN, Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, in a statement, blamed the outage on rainstorm.
