The Police in Katsina state have rescued eight travelers abducted along Jibia- Batsari road on FrIday.
The state police command spokesperson, SP Gambo Isa, said the bandits blocked Kabobi road on Jibia – Batsari main road and kidnapped occupants of a Volkswagen Paasat vehicle Friday evening.
He said the gunmen took the victims into the bush with the intent of kidnapping them only to meet stiff resistance from police officers after a gun duel.
Isa noted that eight out of the 11 kidnapped victims have been rescued, “search parties are combing the are with the view of arresting the fleeing bandits and to rescue the remaining three missing persons.”
He said those rescued are Haruna Abdullahi (70), Rukayya Isa (13), Zainab Abdullahi (12), Harira Abdullahi (12), Basira Isiya (12), Maryam Lawal (20) and her two children Safina and Lawal.
The rescued victims are from Garin Inu and Turaku communities all of Batsari local government area.
