The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 20,374 officers to their new ranks.
They include nine commissioners who are elevated to assistant inspectors-general (AIGs), and nine deputy commissioners who are now commissioners.
A statement by PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said the others are: three chief superintendents to assistant commissioner, 15,177 deputy superintendents to superintendents and 2,293 assistant superintendents to deputy superintendents.
There are also 7,283 unconfirmed assistant superintendents II to assistant superintendents I, 9,072 inspectors to assistant superintendents II and promoted 110 inspectors to senior inspectors.
