The Kaduna Police Command has rescued a victim abducted from Abuja and apprehended one of the kidnappers en route to Kano State.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, revealed on Thursday that the police not only rescued the victim but also seized the kidnappers’ operational firearms and the victim’s vehicle.
“On January 18, 2024, Operatives from the Kawo Divisional Headquarters, Kaduna, responded to a distress call about a kidnapping incident involving culprits and their victim passing through Kaduna from Abuja.
“Around 0010 ho the operatives intercepted a grey Toyota Hilux van with the registration number Abuja RBC 90 DC, suspected to be transporting the kidnappers and their victim.
“In an attempt to escape, one of the kidnappers opened fire on the policemen. The police retaliated, resulting in the rescue of Segun Akinyemi, the victim, and the arrest of Chinaza Philip, a 28-year-old from Life Camp, Abuja.
“Three other suspects managed to escape, and the police are actively pursuing them. The recovered items from the kidnappers include the victim’s vehicle, two Retay G17 model pistols, one Beretta pistol, ten 9mm P.A.K ammunitions, and five 9mm special ammunitions’ he said.
He added that preliminary inquiries revealed that the victim, Segun Akinyemi, was abducted on January 17, 2024, as he left his home in FCDA quarters Area 3 Garki, Abuja.
