The Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Thursday checked and adopted all the BVAS used in Okene Local Government Area during the state’s November 11, 2023 governorship elections.
This was sequel to the conclusion of inspection of materials used in the LGA and tendering same before the tribunal headed by Justice Ado Yusuf Birnin – Kudu.
The materials inspected Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and result sheets.
Both the governorship candidate Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka and his party Social Democratic Party (SDP) are contesting the governorship election results from Adavi, Okene, Okehi, Ogori-Magongo, Ajaokuta, Lokoja, Kogi and Bassa LGAs of the state.
The appellants argued at the tribunal that the results from these areas were inflated and prayed the tribunal to cancel them and declare them winner in the election.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that both the SDP and its candidate Ajaka engaged the services of expert forensic analysts who undertook the assignment before the submission.
It was a double victory for both the SDP and Ajaka on Thursday as earlier in the day the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the duo.
The apex court had dismissed the ruling of the Appeal Court which set aside the tribunal leave to both the SDP and Ajaka to inspect all election materials used in the eight local government areas of the state.
