A Kano State Shari’ah Court presided over by Nura Yusuf Ahmad has ordered that popular Kano TikToker, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, be taken for a psychiatric evaluation at a government hospital to ascertain her mental status.
Alkali Ahmad said during her previous appearance in court she seemed to not be in a sound state of mind due to suspected drug influence.
The Department of State Services brought Murja to the court on Tuesday.
It would be recalled that the state Hisbah board had on February 13 arrested Kunya, 26, and arraigned her before the Shari’a Court after receiving several complaints from members of the public that she was terrorizing their area by bringing bad boys at midnight and inciting disturbance.
Her release from detention on the orders of the court had sparked a public complaint in the state.
The court will on Tuesday, February 20 rule on her bail application.
Kano State Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, said Murja was facing fresh allegations which necessitated her being taken out from detention for investigation by security agencies.
Kunya is being charged with inciting public disturbance, belonging to a criminal gang and criminal intimidation.
The Prosecutor, Aminu Abdullahi, told the court that residents in her neighbourhood complained that Murja influenced their children on prostitution.
“You even said it in one of your videos which went viral that you are the leader of all the prostitutes in the city,” the prosecution said, adding that the offences contravened sections 341, 275 and 227 of the Penal Code.
She pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Alkali Ahmad on Tuesday ordered that the defendant would remain under the custody of Kano State Hisbah Board which will be giving the court updates on her condition.
He then adjourned the matter to May 20 for continuation of the case.
