A viral video featuring students of Dansarai Primary School on Hadejia Road in Kano State has drawn widespread attention to the dire conditions at the school.
The school is apparently struggling with deteriorating infrastructure, including cracked walls, leaking roofs, overcrowded classrooms, security challenges, and a lack of essential facilities.
Following the viral video, our reporter visited the school and uncovered even more troubling issues than those shown in the video.
Situated at Dansarai town in Gezawa local government area of Kano State, Dansarai Primary School—which used to be a source of hope for the community’s children—is now overwhelmed by inadequate infrastructure that compromises the overall learning spirit and environment.
The primary school lacks basic amenities and suffers from alarming security lapses, including missing doors and windows, which leave the school vulnerable to intruders.
To make matters worse, students often have to attend lessons under the scorching sun due to the absence of a proper roof over certain classes.
Reports indicate that some miscreants known locally as ‘Yan Daba’ use the school premises at night as a hideout to engage in criminal activities such as drug dealing, intensifying concerns over the safety of both the children and the wider community.
It was observed that the school, which does not have a perimeter fence, has continued to face serious security challenges, thereby exposing both teachers and pupils to various security risks.
In an interview, an anonymous opinion leader expressed grave concern over the situation, describing the school’s condition as a major obstacle to effective teaching and learning.
He further warned that the lack of adequate sanitation and safe drinking water jeopardizes students’ health and well-being, while the dilapidated buildings reflect neglect that diminishes motivation and disrupts discipline.
According to him, these challenges have persisted for years without any meaningful support either from local or state governments, leaving students exposed and vulnerable.
He however appealed to the government and well-to-do individuals across the state to come to the rescue of the future of their sons and daughters in the area.
The situation at Dansarai Primary School is a stark reminder of the urgent need for sustained government intervention to guarantee every child’s right to a safe and quality education. Without prompt action, the future of the community’s children remains seriously at risk.
