The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has asked security authorities to treat Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state, as “an accomplice” unless he names the abductors of students of Government Girls Junior Secondary School, Jangebe.
The governor had on Sunday promised to shock Nigerians with the identities of those behind the abductions, who he alleged were sabotaging efforts to release the students.
The ACF in a statement on Tuesday, by Audu Ogbe, tasked security agencies to question the governor on the identities of the criminals “he is trying to hide”.
“If he refuses to disclose their identities, he must be treated as an accomplice to the criminal act of kidnapping,” a part of the statement read.
The ACF said it was embarrassed by the spate of kidnappings especially of school children spreading like wildfire all over the north, hence the need for people in positions of authority like Governor Matawalle to stop embarrassing the north and country with careless statements on a serious issue like the kidnappings of school children.
The forum also expressed concern over the decision of the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers Association (AUFCDA) to stop the movement of food items from the north to the south, saying the action will further complicate the socio-economic and political problems bedevilling Nigeria.
