Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters ambushed a military convoy, killing 15 soldiers and four members of Civilian Joint Task Force.
The AFP reports on Saturday said the incident happened on Thursday, near Gudumballi, a village in Lake in Northern part of Borno state.
The 10-vehicle convoy was on its way to Gudumbali from the town of Kukawa in Borno for a military operation against the insurgents when it came under fire, a military source told AFP.
Ten soldiers and three members of Civilian JTF were said to have been wounded in the ambush.
The Boko haram group had in 2016 splited into two groups, with one being backed by ISIS operating in the Northern part of Borno state, while the other led by Abubakar Shekau operates in the Sambisa area.
The terrorist groups have killed over 30,000 people and displaced hundred of thousand in the 12-year-olf conflict.
ISWAP on Saturday issued a statement, claiming responsibility for the ambush.
