Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday unveiled new Polling Units, bringing their total number to 176,846.
This is coming after several attempts in the past 25 years to expand the number of Polling Units in the country.
INEC had on Monday last week hinted about the development.
Attempts to expand voters’ access to polling units has been one of INEC’s age-long goals to decongest existing polling units in parts of the country.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the expansion was carried out in order to guarantee easy access to Polling Units during elections.
Yakubu said 749 Polling Units were relocated from private properties, palaces and worship centres.
