Gunmen believed to belong to the group of slain Benue criminal gang leader, Terwase Akwaza (aka Gana) have killed a police officer and burnt several houses, during an attack on Tse Harga village in Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue State.
The spokesperson, Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, but said she was yet to get the full detail.
However, a security source said the criminals attacked the area and about 4am on Thursday. He said troops of Operation Whirl Stroke deployed to the area engaged the criminals, killing one of them and recovered over 200 rounds of ammunition.
It was leant that gunmen targeted youths of Tse Harga who had formed a vigilante group to defend the community due to frequent attacks by criminals.
