Four members of a prominent Kabaraini family in Bida, Niger State, were on Monday killed in a fire outbreak in the family house.
A source in Bida, Ndagi Mustapha, told 21st Century Chronicle that two wives, one grandchild of the owner of the house, and another person being nursed by a family member, died in the incident.
Mustapha said the incident happened at about 1am on Monday after a power hostage in the area where the one storey house is being located.
The owner of the house Ahmadu Kabaraini is deceased, but the head of
the family, Sallau Kabaraini, said the cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained.
But narrating how the incident happened, Mustapha said: “There is power rationing in Bida, and each quarter usually has at least five hours of electricity daily. The Kabaligulu area had power from 7pm to
12 in the day of the incident.
“After the power outage, the family put on a generator. It was after that they noticed fire in the house. So nobody knows whether it was the power outage from the public electricity supplied that caused the fire outbreak or it was due to the generator.”
The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, had since condoled the affected with the family, calling on the members to see the incident as an act of God.
