President Bola Tinubu’s administration is planning to spend N4.91 trillion on defence and security in 2025.
The government has also earmarked N4.06 trillion for infrastructure, N3.5 trillion for education and N2.48 trillion for health.
The president revealed this while presenting the 2025 budget proposal to the joint session of the National Assembly presided by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker Abbas Tajudeen in the chambers of the House of Representatives, on Wednesday.
The N47.96 trillion budget, titled “The restoration budget, securing peace, building prosperity,” has about N13 trillion deficit to be funded through borrowings.
Mr Tinubu said, “As we embark on implementing the 2025 budget, our steps are deliberate, our decisions resolute, and our priorities are clear. This budget reflects a renewed commitment to strengthening the foundation of a robust economy.
“While addressing the critical sectors essential for the growth and development, we envision to secure our nation. Security is the foundation of all progress. We have significantly increased the funding for the military, paramilitary and our police forces to secure the nation, protect our borders and consolidate government control over every inch of our national territory.”
