An early morning attack by ethnic militias have left two police dead and several others injured in Chanchangi, Takum local government area of Taraba state.
A resident of the town, Bala Nuhu, said the militias stormed the town Wednesday morning from neighbouring Benue state and attempted to gain entrance to the palace, but were prevented by some residents.
He said residents, including women and children fled while some residents engaged the militia in gun duel.
Nuhu said mobile police were later drafted to the town from a nearby police base to engage the militias. He said two policemen were killed during the encounter, while several residents were injured.
Spokesperson of the Taraba state police command, Leha Reform, confirmed the attack. She, however, said one police man was killed while four children were injured during the attack.
