No fewer than five students of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, collapsed in a stampede that occurred in an examination hall.
Some students also sustained various degrees of injuries during the incident.
The incident happened on Wednesday when students were rushing into a communication technology centre where the exam where the exam is being conducted, BBC reports on Friday.
The university has introduced the use of computer-based examinations
for all students in the school.
It was learnt that the hall was designed to contain 500 people, but was overcrowded with more than 1000 students.
This, it was learnt, coupled with inadequate ventilation resulted in the student being suffocated, which caused some of them to faint during the examination.
The school’s student union has expressed displeasure over the incident.
