In April, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) announced the deregulation of meter prices under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme for end-user customers in a bid to address lingering issues surrounding meter supply and pricing transparency in the electricity sector.
The NERC said meter prices under the MAP scheme would be determined through competitive bidding rather than being centrally regulated.
Prior to this, the NERC regulated meter prices, which were often subsidised across all DisCos to reduce costs for customers.
