Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hajiya Fareeda Dankaka, is running the agency like a sole administrator, one of the commissioners has alleged.
He alleged that the lady is single-handedly running the affairs of the commission in clear negation of federal character principles.
Federal Commissioner, representing Rivers State and Chairman of the Integrity Group, Augustine Onyekachi Wokocha, told journalists in Abuja that if the trend of affairs is allowed to continue, it would jeopardize the mandate of the commission.
The commissioner said Dankaka, despite several complaints, had created three committees to replace the traditional sectoral ones.
The commissioner claimed that Dankaka issues certificates of compliance and waiver applications without recourse to the commissioners.
The aggrieved commissioner also said the budget of the commission is shrouded in secrecy, and that the chairman hired consultants without due process, claiming she operates like a sole administrator and not chairman.
In her reaction, Ms Dankaka said the whole drama is a case of corruption fighting back.
She said contrary to the commissioner’s allegation, FCC does not employ, but only exists to checkmate the excesses of federal agencies.
She denied all the allegations, saying they only exist in the imaginative mind of the commissioner.
