A total of 1,043,737 eligible Nigerians have so far received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), has said.
An update released by the agency on Wednesday showed that each of the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory, had vaccinated about 5,500 persons.
Nigeria received 3.92 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine on March 2, and began vaccination of her citizens five days later, beginning with the inoculation of President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.
The majority of the people vaccinated in the phase 1 of the campaign are frontline health workers, first responders in the military, paramilitary and other security agencies.
Other frontline workers including journalists, teachers, the clergy, among others.
In the NPHCDA update, Lagos is leading in the exercise with 192,061 persons vaccinated. Other states are Kano 56,942; Kaduna, 55,604 and Ogun, 52,513.
The states with less number of people vaccinated are Sokoto, 11,560; Akwa Ibom, 11,350; Enugu, 11,018; Bayelsa, 10, 487.
