A Magistrate’s Court in Sokoto on Tuesday sentenced three teenagers to four years in prison for sharing a nude video of a bride-to-be on social media platforms.

The teenagers are Aminu Hayatu Tafida, Umar Abubakar and Mas’ud Abubakar Gidado.

The trio were earlier charged for abetment, indecent act, sale and printing of obscene book and circulation of an 18 seconds nude video.

On the obscene and indecent act, the court fined each of the defendants N200,000; in default, they will spend two years in prison.

Similarly, each of them was fined N50,000 for sale of obscene book and failure to do that would attract two years’ imprisonment.

On abetment, each of the defendants would pay N50,000 fine or six months’ imprisonment.

Chief Magistrate, Ahmad Shu’aibu noted that the defendants were first time offenders who have just realised the consequences of their action.

“I consider the passionate pleas of each of the defence counsel and the need to safeguard the society from this kind of act before delivering my judgement, hoping it will serve as deterrent to others,” he said

The court, however, directed each of of them to pay the complainant N100,000 as compensation.

The said act was committed in 2017.
