A Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan has dissolved a 13-year-old marriage between one Durojaye Akingbade and his estranged wife, Olabisi, due to stubbornness and sexual starvation.
The Court President, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, who dissolved the marriage, held that the petitioner was no longer interested in continuing with the relationship and that the court could not force him to continue.
Akintayo, therefore, ordered both Akingbade and Olabisi to go their separate ways, in the interest of peace and tranquility.
She granted the order restraining the respondent from harassing, threatening, disturbing and interfering in the private life of the petitioner henceforth.
Akingbade, a teacher, had, in his earlier testimony, accused his wife of not obeying his instructions, adding that since their marriage, it had been one day, one trouble in his home.
“It got to a point Olabisi stopped cooking for me and the children, such that the three children relied on food gotten from our relatives.
“Worst still, she has been denying me sexual intercourse and has not allowed me my conjugal right for the past three years.
“Before then, I forced my way through because she did whatever pleased her.
“My lord, Olabisi has refused to pack out of my house and so, I disconnected the electrical supply to her apartment,” Akingbade said.
In her response, Olabisi, who also earned her livelihood as a teacher, however, refuted most of the claims by her husband.
Olabisi described Akingbade as a pathological liar and a womaniser, who usually returned home to practise whatever his friends told him to do.
“Akingbade’s friends usually influenced him that they had sex anytime they wished and anywhere.
“In fact, I decided to excuse myself from further sexual activities with him when he complained that he contracted sexual disease through me.
“Even his younger brother died of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
“Furthermore, Akingbade married three wives between 2020 and 2024 without informing me,” she told the court, adding that Akingbade’s mother had all along been his best friend in terms of closeness.
