Christians all over the world are celebrating Good Friday today. The day marks the death of Jesus on the cross, which according to Christianity, signifies man’s salvation from sin.
Good Friday is part of a significant day in the holy week, which commences with Palm Sunday which haralds the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, which marked the beginning of his passion heading up to Easter.
On this day, Catholics, who have been fasting for the past 39 days, abstain from meat.
From today, a three day period marks Jesus in the tomb. And Sunday is celebrated as Easter, which marks the resurrection.
The federal government had earlier declared today as a public holiday to mark this year’s Easter celebration.
