The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) says President Muhammadu Buhari must exercise adequate leadership as the commander-in-chief in order to tackle insecurity in the country.
Buhari announced the change of service chiefs on Tuesday after much pressure from Nigerians to bring in fresh hands.
NEF spokesperson Hakeem Baba-Ahmed said on a television programme on Wednesday that the President must change his attitude to defence and security to rid the country of insecurity, which change of service chiefs alone cannot achieve.
He said the country cannot win the war against insurgency and banditry if the President leads the new service chiefs the same way he led their predecessors.
“President Buhari needs to have a closer eye on what is going on and hold the new service chiefs accountable to make sure that the changes are brought into the military in terms of conduct, professionalism, integrity, morale of the fighting forces and change in tactics,” he said.
