President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday flag-off the Kano-Maradi rail project, awarded at the cost of $2 billion.
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said this on his twitter page.
He said the ceremony would take place in the Katsina axis of the project.
The Federal Government entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Mota-Engil Group on the construction of the $1.959billion Kano-Maradi standard gauge railway line, in January 2021.
Amaechi had signed on behalf of the Federal Government while the managing director of Mota-Engil, Antonio Gvoea, signed on behalf of the contracting firm.
The railway project is expected to connect three northern states in Nigeria – Kano, Katsina and Jigawa and terminate in Maradi, Niger Republic.
Other cities that will be affected by the rail line in Nigeria are Danbatta, Kazaure, Daura, Mashi, Katsina and Jibiya.
The project’s duration is 36 months and the contract type is engineering, procurement and construction.
