Bandits have burnt down the houses of the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, his father’s and that of his uncle’s in a Sunday night attack.
The speaker’s father has been in bandits’ den for over a month.
The houses, according to a local source from Zurmi, were all located in Magarya, the speaker’s hometown in Zurmi.
The source, Abdullahi Yusuf, said the bandits didn’t kill or abduct anyone at the speaker’s hometown.
“They only came to burn down the houses and they were there for more than three hours without any attempt by security agents to repel them,” he said.
Mr. Yusuf, who spoke with our reporter from Sabon Birni in Sokoto state, said the attack have now become deadly in the Zurmi – Shinkafi – Sabon Birni axis.
10 residents killed
Mr. Yusuf added that the bandits also attacked a community near Magarya and killed 10 people.
“In Dutsi, some meters away from Magarya, the bandits were even more deadly because they killed ten people. They were all buried yesterday (Monday)”
One of the speaker’s aides, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the attack and the burning of the houses.
While the speaker’s press secretary, Mustapha Jaafar, didn’t respond to calls and SMS sent to him.
The aide told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that they had left Abuja Tuesday morning to Zamfara state with the speaker.
“As I speak with you, the speaker must have reached Gusau. You know because of this network ban issue, even the speaker didn’t know of the attack until yesterday evening and we had to leave Abuja this morning.”
