Hundreds of people have reportedly fled Danmusa, Gurza and Tsamiyar Jino communities in Danmusa local government area of Katsina state following fresh bandits attacks on Wednesday.
A former director at the state local government service commission, Yaro Lawal, was killed in the attack that took place in Danmusa after sunset.
A source said the bandits stormed Lawal’s residence on motorcycles shortly after Muslims faithful had broken their fasting, and ordered him to follow them.
“He was met alongside some few people in the frontage of his house which is a stone throw from the Police station. They (bandits) asked him to climb one of the motorcycles and follow them which he refused,” the source said.
The source said most of the people there ran for their lives as soon as the rampaging bandits drove into the town, stressing that “the few who stayed watched helplessly as bandits shot Lawal severally.”
Sources said bandits attacked Gurza and Tsamiyar communities on Wednesday morning.
One of the people that fled Gurza told 21ST CENTURY CHRONICLE that he was at home in the early evening when the marauding bandits drove into the village.
He said, “I was outside my house and I saw them coming into the village. I counted thirty motorcycles carrying four bandits each with sophisticated weapons.
“I didn’t wait to finish counting because people were running for dear lives. I had to join those running, without knowing where to go.”
The old man, who now lives in Hajj Camp area on Daura road, said he left Tsamiyar Jino with nothing except the clothes he wore.
Another displaced person, who is now taking refuge in Sabuwar Unguwa and gave his name as Sale said his family house lost six cattles during the attack.
“As I speak to you now Malam, wallahi there is nobody in Gurza village,” he said.
“We have all left the village because nobody knows what will happen next. We are being attacked on a daily basis.”
Sale, who said he walked from Gurza to Tsamiyar Jino, thought he would be lucky to get refuge there with his family.
“I was not surprised when I found out that Tsamiyar Jino too was attacked. But they are a bit lucky because in our village, there is nobody to be seen there. We have all left.”
