One person was killed and many others wounded when bandits invaded Yartashar Sahabi market in Maru local government area of Zamfara State.
The market was also set ablaze by the gunmen during the incident that happened on Thursday.
An eyewitness said the bandits stormed the market square and began shooting sporadically on air.
He said people at the market scampered for safety, while the gunmen took their time to loot food items from shops and later set the market ablaze.
The source said the bandits ran into the bush as they sighted the Mobile Police attached to Operation Puff Adder approaching the market area.
The spokesperson of Zamfara State Police Command, Muhammad Shehu, is yet to respond on the incident.
