Bandits invaded Kuriga Town in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State and abducted pupils of LEA Primary School Kuriga (1), including students of Junior and Secondary school, on Thursday morning.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that one student was shot during the invasion, but it was not clear if he died or not.
The villagers couldn’t ascertain the number of students abducted but said they were in dozens, including the principal of the Junior Secondary school.
Residents explained that the incident happened around 8:20am shortly after the school assembly.
The junior and secondary schools relocated to the school building inside the Kuriga town a few years ago due to insecurity concerns, abandoning their former school building located outside the town.
Shitu Gabas, a resident who confirmed the incident, said most of the students ran out of their classes when they saw the bandits in the school premises.
“The school has both junior and secondary school students that relocated to the primary school building a few years ago because their school building was located outside the town and there was no security protection.
“So the bandits now abducted many of them and took them to the forest,” he said.
Another resident, who preferred not to be mentioned, said one student was shot during the invasion.
There was no official reaction from the state government and the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, couldn’t be reached on the phone and is yet to reply to a text message sent to him seeking clarification.
